Go Ahead – Indulge!!

Sometimes it’s good to be bad!

It sharpens your brain, it protects your heart or it reduces your risk of diabetes. Is it a break-through medication? A no-nonsense health regime? Think again.

Believe it or not, it could be your guilty pleasure that’s helping you. What you think of as an indulgence- like eating chocolate, having a glass of wine, even smoking marijuana – could have a bright side. New scientific evidence is showing that some of our so-called bad habits may actually boost our health.

That may seem counterintuitive, when we often hear about the risks of opening a bottle or lighting up a joint. Public health regulators tend to protect people so err on the side of caution. Often what is forgotten is that the dose is the poison, so we need to know where the tipping point is for our favourite indulgences.

Of course, whenever we are talking about anything that has both benefits and risks, we need to be careful interpreting any good news stories. Be sure to consider all the studies to ensure they are reputable.

At the end, talk to your health professional before making decisions based on whatever you read, especially when it comes to your health.

Life should be enjoyed, just do so in an informed way!!
