News Update    September   17,  2009

As you are aware a court hearing was held on September 15th to determine what position
the government would be taking respecting the benefit issues the SRA presented to the court.

We were disappointed to learn that the government lawyers decided the government owed nothing
more to SRA members and we should be satisfied with the 70% indexing we received.

As a result, the judge directed that this matter  now proceed to trial and as of this week lawyers from both sides will be working
to establish a trial date likely for sometime in the New Year.

Your SRA Board is both confounded and perplexed by these latest actions on the part of the government
given the discussions we have had with them over the past years and in particular the strong support of
some members prior to and after the election. We are not sure who is taking this stand, but we have to presume
Mr. Wall has made the final decision and that his comments about caring for senior citizens has been nothing
more than rhetoric to get votes. One can only conclude the Conservative party only supported our cause to help
them get elected.  Furthermore, the government does not have a large legal bill in these proceedings, unlike the SRA,
as they use their own lawyers. SRA members pay not only for our lawyers, but as taxpayers, we also indirectly pay
for the government lawyers.

Two by-elections are scheduled for September 21st in Regina DouglasPark and Saskatoon Riversdale.
We urge you to make your voice heard from around the province by contacting your MLA, the Premier,
as well as those running in these by-elections and make known how you feel about the actions they have taken
respecting this matter.

For those who live in those constituencies vote as you please but keep in mind the actions of this government
who promised to support our cause.

Please spread the word to all members.
