News Update June 10th, 2008

PO Box 567
Fort QuAppelle, Sask.
S0G 1S0

June 10, 2008
Honourable Rod Gantefoer
Minister of Finance
Room 312, Legislative Building
Regina, Saskatchewan
S4S 0B3

Dear Minister Gantefoer

As you might expect, Retirees are disappointed that you and your Government appear to have sided with Justice staff andforcing the continuation of our lawsuit through the courts. This is particularly confusing for Retirees when your Party, as the official opposition, criticized the former NDP Government for not meeting with Retirees and negotiating a reasonable resolution to this dispute.

It is even more disappointing in that the Saskatchewan Party is on public record documenting its support for the Retiree request for improved pensions and benefits. You are aware of the Retiree requests and have before you our offerto withdraw the lawsuit with a reasonable resolution to only five of the concerns facing Retirees.

Further to my recent letter, I have now been advised that Finance staff have finished a costing of certain Retiree pension improvement requests.

In consideration that this costing has now been completed, it would seem appropriate to now meet and discuss these findings with SRA officials. Inlight of this recent development, we again request a meeting with you, “without prejudice”, to discuss our issues and concerns.

On behalf of many of your constituents, and the entire Saskatchewan Retiree Association membership, I look forward to your favorable consideration of this request.

Yours sincerely,

Alf Zimmerman
President
